SCI Fellowship

Candidates applying to spinal cord injury fellowships participate in the NRMP Match. The NRMP Match occurs in the fall of each year, and fellowship positions typically begin the following July. ACGME-approved SCI Fellowships do not participate in ERAS for the application process. Instead, there is a common application that is used for applicants. You can obtain this application here or by contacting any of the programs. If you have questions about the process, you can contact Jelena Svircev MD at or Amanda Harrington MD at for further details.

Visit the Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Match website here.

Download the application here.

  • Spinal Cord Injury Medicine fellowship is one year in length
  • Certification in SCI medicine is offered to diplomats of all ABMS member boards, particularly from specialties directly related to the care of persons with spinal cord injury whose diplomats wish to be certified in SCI medicine (e.g. anesthesiology, emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, neurological surgery, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, plastic surgery, and urology).
  • Exceptional applicants from non-ACGME residency programs may be approved to complete a spinal cord injury fellowship, however only applicants that have completed an approved ACGME residency are eligible for board certification in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine through the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

  • Match Opens: August 11, 2021
  • Ranking Opens: September 8, 2021
  • Ranking Closes: October 13, 2021
  • Match Day: October 27, 2021

After the MATCH has concluded for the year, programs may have open fellowship positions that can be filled outside of the NRMP MATCH. Please contact programs directly to inquire about open fellowship positions.

Match dates for 2022 will be posted in the spring of 2022 but will roughly mirror the 2021 dates. In general, applications are submitted in the summer months and interviews are conducted in the summer and early fall. To participate in the MATCH in the fall, it is suggested that applications be submitted by early-to mid-August to allow for interviews to be scheduled.
