I am greatly honored and excited to serve you all as the President of ASCIP for 2017-2019. For those of you who have been involved with the historic organizations who came together in 2009 to form ASCIP, you know much of our proud history and heritage. We honor several important people from that past during our annual conference through named lectures and awards, and it is a privilege to do so each year! We now continue to build on that foundation with “Many Minds…One Vision”! Through our interdisciplinary collaborations, we pursue our mission to optimize the health of individuals with SCI/D as we learn, mentor, and explore in much the same way that we come together every day for the individuals that we serve.
While we hold fast to this important mission, the world and healthcare environment around us continue to change and dramatically impact our pursuit and ultimate success of this goal. Despite (and perhaps because of) these important changes and their impact on the field of SCI/D, it is more important now than ever for us to continue to earnestly pursue what is best for individuals impacted by these injuries and disorders.
ASCIP is a strong and unique professional society in which clinicians and scientists from multiple disciplines and backgrounds come together to develop and discover in the field of SCI/D.
I look forward to working closely with you during my tenure as President. It is my true privilege to do so alongside the strong leaders we have throughout the Governance Board, Section Boards, Committees, our Executive Director and the FIRM. If you have any questions or suggestions, I welcome contact from you at any time at Jeff.Johns@Vanderbilt.edu.
One of the “Many Minds…One Vision”!
Jeff Johns, M.D.
